SPEECH ~ Speech therapy that is client-centered, strengths-based, and focused on meaningful connection.

PLAY ~ Utilizing a child-led play-based approach to create engaging and motivating therapy sessions!

LOVE ~ Providing an environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered.

Speech Play Love Therapy Services is a small and locally owned pediatric speech therapy practice based out of Plymouth, Michigan.  We provide in-home speech therapy throughout the Metro Detroit area and teletherapy throughout the state of Michigan.

We take a neurodiversity affirming approach to speech therapy for autistic individuals. This means that we respect that autism is a neurotype (a different type of brain) that may present with unique strengths, needs, and challenges. It is our goal to follow your child's lead and interact together during their favorite activities because children communicate best when their needs are met and they are engaged!

Early Language

Parent involvement is key for early language development. We empower you - parents - to use helpful language strategies during your everyday routines and play times. Whether your child has yet to speak their first word or they need help to start forming longer sentences, we have the tools and resources to help you support their language skills with confidence.  Together, we can help your child find their voice!

We advocate for the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems for children who are non-speaking or those who need additional support to communicate. High-tech and low-tech AAC options can support your child in becoming an independent communicator by allowing them to express themselves more easily, connect with others in their lives, and participate fully in social interactions and activities at school, at home, and within their community.

Katie Forbes, M.A., CCC-SLP

Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

I am a passionate speech therapist with over 5 years of experience working with children in outpatient multidisciplinary clinics, home health care settings, and private practice.

I started my private practice because I wanted to be able to take the time necessary to build relationships with every child and family that I work with.  I am intentional about creating a therapeutic environment that builds upon your child's unique strengths, interests, challenges, and goals.  As a mom myself, I understand wanting the absolute best for your child.  With this in mind, I strive to hold space for families with empathy for the struggles that may come with parenting a child with special needs.

I earned my Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology from Western Michigan University and obtained my Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Eastern Michigan University. Throughout my career, I have become specialized in the neurodiverse communication needs of children on the autism spectrum, early childhood language development, and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

When not working, I enjoy spending time with my family (as well as two dogs and two cats), practicing yoga, traveling, and doing all sorts of outdoor activities!

““Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.”

"Katie and I worked together back in 2017/2018, and she is truly an amazing therapist! Her passion goes above and beyond the job itself, and her ability to help is unmatched. Kids of all ages (even adults!) looked forward to seeing her each time they came for therapy and those faces filled with joy the moment Katie would open the door and call their name. It’s hard to find a good therapist that actually takes pride and joy in their work, however, your search is over because Katie holds that spot effortlessly!"
